There aren’t many things that are a lot more irritating than cleaning a dirty oven, except possibly stained oven racks. Even if you are someone that uses their oven sparingly, chances are that baked-on oven grease, sticky grime, and burned pieces of food will accumulate. Like any other area of cleaning, by putting it off you will only delay the inevitable and increase the amount of work which will be needed to remove layers of painted-on grease and debris. Though, rest assured that cleaning oven racks are easy if you adopt the right technique. Fortunately, by following our oven rack cleaning hacks below, you will get the job done in a quick and timely manner with a minimal amount of hassle.

1. Dryer Sheets and Dishwashing Liquid

The cleaning hack we swear by for removing grime from oven racks is to line your bath with dryer sheets and place them on top of the sheets. Following this, you should fill your bath with some warm water (just enough to cover the racks) and add half a cup of dish soap.

Allow this to sit overnight. After you drain the bath in the morning you should use the dryer sheets to wipe the racks clean. The antistatic in the dryer sheets helps to separate the food from the racks, while fabric softening agents soften the baked on food. Although you may want to take some time to clean the bath after you’ve taken care of your oven racks.

2. Baking Soda and Vinegar Bath

This method also includes the use of your bath. Set the racks in the bath without any water. After you’ve placed them into the bath you should sprinkle some baking soda
onto them which both acts as a cleanser and deodorizer- over them and then cover them with vinegar.

After this, run the hot water into the bath and only stop when the water covers the whole of the racks. Allow this to sit over night and then scrub the racks with an old dishtowel in the morning. This will both remove the grease and grime. Use an old toothbrush as well for scrubbing the difficult parts. Afterwards, rinse the racks before you put them back in the oven.

3. Ammonia Rubbish Bags

This is a relatively straightforward method. You simply need to place your oven racks into an unused rubbish bag. Add half ammonia. Tie the bag and put it in the bin overnight. If you do decide to do this method though, make sure you seal the bag tightly so that the ammonia can’t leak out. The next morning, spray the racks with a hose and the previous grime will fall off. Once the racks are rinsed and dried you can then put them back in the oven.
